Thank you for writing this, dear Katrice. The collapses that take us by surprise are always the interesting ones. Tooth pain is like no other pain. I think anyone would have cried, even without the wagons. Thank you for your insights and reflections. X

I vividly remember a dentist telling My mum that I had 'rotten' teeth, and could expect problems with them for life... He was right, sadly, and I have only recently (due to a legacy) been able to afford a plate to fill in the many missing teeth in my upper jaw, which I was very self conscious about. Now it can smile properly, it's been a long while...

Teeth are not just teeth - they are how we show emotions, show ourselves. There can be such shame also when we have ‘bad teeth’ as though it is a reflection on us rather than the childhoods we experienced and the systems that informed them. I’m glad you can smile Allan.

I was brought up to be emotionally buttoned-up, and I still find it harder than it should be to access and express emotion, but having a decent smile helps... Just need to do it more often, I guess
